180 Degrees Medellin Tours

Guatape – Peñol, The Rock, Tour

  • Duration: 5 hours
  • Location: Guatape

Here we will visit a hydroelectric dam or reservoir that belongs to EPM, the company who supplies Medellin with its utilities (water, electricity, natural gas).

The town itself was flooded during the 1970’s to make room for the dam.

We will spend about 1 hour and 30 minutes travelling through the rural roads of Antioquia. You’ll get to appreciate the view of the beautiful mountains in our region.

Our first stop will be in the piedra del peñol: You will have the opportunity to walk up the stone (ROCK) and take in the spectacular view of the surrounding area.

As soon as you come down we’ll hop back in the vehicle and take another 15 minute drive into the colorful town of Guatape that is know for the town of zócalos or base boards. This term refers to the beautiful and colorful handmade baseboards that are placed outside each of the houses in the town. This gives it a magnificent authentic look. In this place of town, we are going to have the chance to share a great typical Colombia meal for lunch and see the reservoir at its best.

Soon after we can head back into town and go for some good coffee from the region itself, directly from the coffee plantations of Guatape.

You can also do some shopping in Guatape’s artesanal shops.

From there we will take our road trip back to Medellin and most likely enjoy a quick nap, so you can recharge your batteries for Medellin’s nightlife.

Hello my name is David

I was born in Medellin Colombia. At the age of 10 in 1986 My family moved to the United States, fleeing the violence of the time here in Colombia, specially Medellin, in order for us not to loose our visa status we would come back every year, anywhere from 1 month to 3 months every 6 months.

So I was able to live both life styles, the grim times of Medellin in the 80s and 90s, also able to enjoy the great time of America in this period of history.

In 2001 I came about a great opportunity to invest in Medellin, was able to come back and make my life here once again, realizing that it has taken a “180 degrees” turn around, Making it a great and safe place to visit and discover, in South America.

Let me share with you, show you around this beautiful, transformed, cultural, magnificent and growing city.

You will certainly not be disappointed.
