Here we will visit a hydroelectric dam or reservoir that belongs to EPM, the company who supplies Medellin with its utilities (water, electricity, natural gas).
The town itself was flooded during the 1970’s to make room for the dam.
We will spend about 1 hour and 30 minutes travelling through the rural roads of Antioquia. You’ll get to appreciate the view of the beautiful mountains in our region.
Our first stop will be in the piedra del peñol.
You will have the opportunity to walk up the stone and take in the spectacular view of the surrounding area.
As soon as you come down we’ll hop back in the vehicle and take another 15 minute drive into the colorful town of Guatape that is know for the town of zócalos.
This term refers to the beautiful and colorful handmade baseboards that are placed outside each of the houses in the town. This gives it a magnificent authentic look.
In this place of town, we are going to have the chance to share a great typical Colombia meal for lunch and see the reservoir at its best.
Soon after we can head back into town and go for some good coffee from the region itself, directly from the coffee plantations of Guatape.
You can also do some shopping in Guatape’s artesanal shops.
From there we will take our road trip back to Medellin and most likely
enjoy a quick nap so you can recharge your batteries for Medellin’s nightlife.
Unless noted otherwise, all of our tours include transportation and an English speaking guide and driver.
